On November 26th, 2020, HR One announced this year’s winners of the Luxembourg HR Awards. This award recognizes the best local initiatives and practices in the human resources management. The ceremony was held virtually due to the current restrictions.

Romain Gossent, Chief Human Resources Officer at East-West United Bank, won the nomination “HR Manager of the Year”. It is a second consecutive HR award for EWUB – last year the bank’s efforts were recognized with the “Best income & rewards strategy” award.

Romain shared his opinion on how the HR function can help a medium-size bank through challenging international competition – “I strongly believe HR should be more than a support function, it should be a partner for the business. We are here to advise managers and to give them means & tools to deliver the strategy. This is what I have been doing for the past 5 years: improve our recruitment method to find talents anywhere, create tailor-made benefits up to international standards, design reward schemes that take into account over-performance and increased value for our shareholder. However, it is important to remember we are all human and social link is very important, especially in a small organization. This is why we have developed many traditions and pretexts to gather all our employees. Whether it is during a large event like our New Year Party, a smaller one like Carnival or even with the spouses and children like our Family Day, our goal is to interact, to let everyone know another side of ourselves. I am happy to see my work on both the technical and the human side of the Human Resources management be recognized and I will continue to work further to improve our HR strategy.”
