The financial crisis has caused huge losses in EU economy according to Yves Mersch, member of the Executive Board of the ECB. For him, European bankers should analyse economic factors in their entirety and in the same time the EU banking union should keep stable the currency union. On the other hand, according to him, there is a weakness of ECB’s analytical capacity in order to understand the interaction between financial and real economic cycles.
