The European Commission has decided to appoint Ms Alexandra Jour-Schroeder to the function of Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA).

Ms Jour-Schroeder, a German official, brings with her considerable experience in negotiations including at international level, a broad policy background as well as strong management skills gained during 24 years of service at the European Commission. She is currently Director of Criminal Justice and acting Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (JUST) where she oversees the department for consumer protection.

Ms Jour-Schroeder is a graduate in law. Following initial assignments in the German federal government, she started working for the European Commission in 1996. Since then, she has held several positions in Directorates-General for competition, enterprise and industry policies. From 1998 to 2007, she served as a Member of Cabinet for the Commissioners responsible for the regional policy and justice portfolios and for the Vice-President for enterprise and industry. From 2007 until 2011, she was twice Head of Unit in the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry (ENTR). Since 2011, she has been working in DG JUST as Head of Unit for criminal law and the European Public Prosecutor's Office and for financial crime and anti-money laundering. She has been contributing to important achievements in the financial sector, including a new EU regime against insider dealing and market abuse and the EU´s anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing policies.
