On July 16th, LuxFLAG announced the death of its General Manager, Sachin Vankalas.
“The LuxFLAG Board of Directors and the LuxFLAG team are profoundly saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Sachin Vankalas. As LuxFLAG’s General Manager and during his 10 years with LuxFLAG, Sachin was universally recognized for his expertise and pioneering leadership in responsible investment.
Sachin’s passion for promoting the development of sustainable finance shone through and had an impact on all of us. As a manager he led by example and his dedication, persistence, and energy were a source of motivation for his team and colleagues.
The LuxFLAG team and Board all grieve the passing of a tremendous human being and our hearts go out to his family for the loss they suffer. He will be greatly missed”, said the LuxFLAG’s press release.
Sachin Vankalas, 38, was hospitalized due to complications from a Covid infection.
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Sachin Vankalas. Sachin was a pillar of LuxFLAG and our sustainable finance community. He will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends”, wrote in a tweet Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance.
Sachin Vankalas had a master's degree in banking and finance from the Luxembourg School of Finance and had participated in several finance and sustainable finance programs at Harvard University and NYU Stern. He had been with LuxFLAG since 2011, taking over the top job in June 2019.
The Luxembourg Finance Labelling Agency (LuxFLAG) is an independent and international non-profit association created in Luxembourg in July 2006 by seven public and private founding partners. The agency aims to promote the raising of capital for the Responsible Investment sector by awarding a recognisable label to eligible investment vehicles amongst others. The labels' objective is to reassure investors that the applicant invests in the Responsible Investment sector. The applicant may be domiciled in any jurisdiction that is subject to a level of national supervision equivalent to that available in European Union countries.
