A press conference was organized on Tuesday afternoon to present the three luxembourgish projects to compete for the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence International 2014. It was also the occasion to point out recent advances realised in the frame of the 65th edition of FIABCI World Congress. Three local flagship projects to compete Belval Nord Housing Area, Center of Conferences CCK1 and Solarwind Building are the three projects that have won the opportunity to benefit from international exposure by competing for FIABCI Prix d’Excellence International. Jürgen Primm, Agora, Patrick Wirtz, Parc Luxembourg, and Xavier Delposen, Schuler Group, have detailed each project that will represent Luxembourg on the international scene. Belval Nord Housing Area Selected in the Environmental (Rehabilitation/Conservation) category, this project is a pure modern urban living, an idea for 4 living quarters. These new subdivisions will include a quarter dedicated to families with small group of houses, alleys and squares as well as a variety of small shops, a range of services, a primary school, a sports centre, a day nursery and a college. Another quarter will be built for single and multiple-family homes and apartments in an attractive hillside location with views of the park. The Square Mile will welcome a business district with room for business, but also with any amount of space for living; and the blast furnace terrace, located at the heart of New Belval will represent a perfect place for students, scientists and urban professionals. Center of Conferences CCK1 The new Conference Center competes for the Public Infrastructure/Amenities category. It will be used by the European Council as well as to host international congresses thanks to its 15 conference rooms with a capacity of between 50 and 900 people. It is a major element in the urban planning of Place de l’Europe, at the entry of Kirchberg district, Luxembourg town. One of its distinctive characteristics is that during daylight, the glass façade reflects the surrounding buildings; the internal activities and key volumes starts to get visible and readable with the night lighting, which generously emphasizes the internal texture of the building. Solarwind Building This project, presented in the sustainable development category, is an innovative building designed and developed with focus on three sustainable development approaches: People, Profit, Planet as well as a pedagogic approach. Indeed, this building, co-invested by Schuler Group and Promère S.A, addresses 21st century issues where environmental certifications, materials, waste management, renewable energy, water cycle and logistics were all considered. It is a space where work and well-being live in harmony while complying a “soft energy” policy. Solarwind building benefits from urban wind turbines, photovoltaic solar panels, thermal solar panels, heat pumps, geothermy, and biomass boiler.
